Good Monday morning:
We start this work week with fresh reminders that the fight against the coronavirus is challenged by many factors and is, itself, a factor in the fight against other diseases and health conditions. The loosening of lockdown restrictions and the increase in mass gatherings brings fears of a spike in COVID-19 infections. Similarly, the suspension of immunization efforts in poor countries around the world has resulted in outbreaks of diseases such as measles, diphtheria, cholera and polio. Here in the US, infection rates are falling in the Northeast, while growing across the Sun Belt. This much is clear: we’ll be wrestling with the coronavirus and its effects on global health for some time to come.
The US hospital system has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic. Increased service demands, coupled with decreased revenues resulting from the suspension of non-COVID procedures, has left hospitals reeling.
At 1:00 pm this Thursday, we’ll be joined by Dr. Robert Corona, CEO of University Hospital in Syracuse, part of the SUNY Upstate Medical University. He’ll talk about the impact the coronavirus has had on his institution and hospitals across New York State and we’ll explore efforts to restart the state’s healthcare system. This lively and informative conversation is free and will include a Q&A for your questions and comments. Please join us. Register here.
We rely on our members to make our work possible. We hope you’ll take a moment to join or renew your membership today. Renewing members can lock in last year’s rate through 2021.
