Good Friday morning:
This week ends with hopeful news in the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. The New York Times reports that in labs around the world, there is cautious optimism that a vaccine, and perhaps more than one, will be ready sometime next year. Scientists are exploring at least four different approaches, and initial indications are encouraging. While the history of vaccine development is filled with stories of promising candidates that failed to live up to early expectations, the stable nature of this pathogen, and the multi-pronged effort to combat it, make it more likely that an effective vaccine will be ready soon.
