Good Monday morning.
Newly released research from the University of Texas shows the widespread impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having – and will continue to have – on the United States. According to the study, even counties with a single reported case have more than 50 percent likelihood than an epidemic is already occurring. Overall, 70 percent of counties in the United States – containing 94 percent of the country’s population - are likely to have an epidemic. While encouraging news out of Italy and Spain show the benefits of social distancing behavior on the epidemic’s trajectory, we in the United States will continue to see large increases in infection, and death, over the near term.
In important news for New York manufacturers over the weekend, FuzeHub, the state’s manufacturing extension partnership, announced $400K in COVID-19 manufacturing grants to New York small to medium-sized companies that can meet prevailing FDA requirements and can quickly accelerate production of personal protective equipment and respiratory care equipment.
Interested and qualified manufacturers are encouraged to apply for a grant through one of two tracks: production of N95 masks or ventilators. Applications must be submitted online by 4:00 pm on Friday, April 17. More information and an application can be found here.
