Good Friday morning.
There’s a Sisyphus-like quality to today’s news (or, perhaps, Groundhog Day). Our advancements against COVID-19 can seem slow and overtaken by the inexorable spread of the disease. At the same time, each day brings a measure of progress and hope for treatments, tests and a possible vaccine. Maureen Fellows at SUNY ESF sent along this terrific story about an initiative at SUNY and CUNY to use 3D printers to produce PPE for New York’s frontline healthcare workers. Groups from across New York State have come together to collaborate, share resources, and harness collective energy to fight the pandemic. It isn’t easy, but it is necessary. In her essay, Chhavi Kumar notes that “we are all modern day Sisyphus, we work tirelessly day in and day out.” The lesson, she says, is: “Embrace the rock. Be persistent. Work hard. Never give up.” An important lesson, indeed.
Later today, CenterStateCEO is hosting US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on its webinar series: “Current & Future Federal Stimulus.” Senator Schumer will discuss the recently passed Federal stimulus packages, and his priorities for future investments to drive recovery for workers and businesses. The program starts at 2:30 this afternoon and is free to attend. Registration is required.
