Yesterday saw the first work-day implementation of Governor Cuomo’s  "New York State on PAUSE" executive order. That order (202.8), intended to flatten the curve of the virus’ spread, effectively shuts down commercial activity in the state. However, businesses deemed “essential” are permitted to operate so long as they engage in appropriate social distancing behavior.

Most MedTech member companies meet the definition of essential.  Specifically, companies engaged in identified manufacturing and healthcare activities are exempt from the work closure requirement.  Essential manufacturing encompasses: chemicals; medical equipment/instruments; pharmaceuticals; safety and sanitary products; and microelectronics/semi-conductors.  Essential healthcare activities include: research and laboratory services; hospital services; medical wholesale and distribution; and medical supplies and equipment.

Empire State Development has issued guidance on essential businesses, created a business resource page, and has set up a web portal to field business-related COVID-19 issues and questions.

MedTech is hosting an Essential Business Conference Call this afternoon to update our members on the latest developments and current guidance.  Please join us!  The call will be held at 3:00 pm today.  The dial-in number is (855) 392-2520.  The participant code is 7732682.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact us with your specific questions and concerns. Regular updates can be found at our website, which is refreshed daily.
