Third Annual Upstate New York Biocareer Connection Acquaints Budding Scientists with Regional Bio/Med Companies

Monday, March 28, 2011

ITHACA, NY—Next Friday, college students, job seekers and professionals will have a chance to explore the many different career paths available to individuals with science degrees during a career exploration event at Ithaca College.

Experienced professionals from regional bioscience and medical technology companies will answer questions, network and provide budding scientists with insight to what the future may hold for their careers at the Upstate New York Biocareer Connection on Friday, April 8.
Upstate New York is one of the leading tech corridors in the U.S., composed of more than 200 Bio/Med companies and more than 100 colleges, universities and training institutes. Many graduates, however, seek employment elsewhere because they are unaware of the many career opportunities present in the Upstate Bio/Med industry. Organizers of the third annual Upstate New York Biocareer Connection hope to raise awareness and connect local talent with the ever-growing number of career opportunities in the region.
The Biocareer Connection will feature an opening panel on best practices and common mistakes in the job search, followed by three concurrent panels that explore various industry sectors. During a closing keynote, Dr. Jonathan Cheetham, a Research Scientist from Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine, will speak about his research, how he ended up where he is today and how advances in science affect us all.
In addition to the panels, bioscience and medical technology companies from a 15-county region of Upstate New York will be exhibiting information about their companies as well as job opportunities that may be available. The Upstate New York Biocareer Connection will take place Friday, April 8 from 12:45 to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Suites, Ithaca College in Ithaca. The event is free and open to the public.
