Retention 'Very Strong' at KeyBank One Month After Conversion

Four weeks after KeyBank N.A. reopened more than 300 First Niagara Bank N.A. retail branches under the KeyBank name, the company reports better-than-anticipated retention -- in terms of employees as well as customers.

KeyBank did not give specific retention percentages. But Gary Quenneville, the top-ranking executive of KeyBank’s Upstate New York region, said employee retention is “very strong” among former First Niagara employees.

“The reaction from First Niagara employees to come to work for Key has been very strong and the retention of employees, I would say, has exceeded even what we had hoped for,” Quenneville said. “Along with that comes the client retention piece, and that’s always enhanced by the degree to which (banks) can retain employees. Folks enjoy personal relationships with their bankers.”
