Medtronic Gets CE Mark for ICDS
Wednesday, October 21, 2015
Medtronic ($MDT) received a CE mark for two implantable defibrillators that can not only shock the heart to prevent irregular heart rhythms, but also detect atrial fibrillation, a warning sign of stroke. Medtronic said afib increases patient risk of stroke by a factor of 5, and risk of heart failure by a factor of 3.
The company says its Visia AF and Visia AF MRI SueScan single-chamber ICDs have a proprietary algorithm for detecting afib (AF), the most common heart rhythm disorder in the world, as well as estimating its duration and severity and remotely alerting physicians of its presence.
