Garwood Medical Devices expects to create 40 new jobs in Buffalo over the next five years after signing a $1.48 million agreement with the University at Buffalo's Buffalo Institute for Genomics and Data Analytics.
That institute – which uses the acronym BIG – represents UB's side of a partnership with the New York Genome Center in Manhattan. It is backed by $100 million in state funding which aims to support high-speed analysis of genomic data for use by university researchers and private companies. The data, supplied by the New York Genome Center, will be crunched at UB supercomputers at its Center for Computational Research.
