12:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Location: CNY Biotech Accelerator, 841 East Fayette St., Syracuse, NY 13210

MedTech’s third annual CCX conference focuses on today’s wireless healthcare environment. As the industry transitions to accountable care, connected care offers tremendous opportunities to help meet the need to contain cost inflation, improve clinical efficiencies and meet the demands of demographic trends.

This half day program will feature two panels on pressing digital health topics, including the future of medical technology and clinical care applications and a keynote from Ali Tinazli, Global Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences Strategy CTO Office - Strategy & Incubation, HP. Dr. Tinazli's keynote presentation, Blended Reality for Life, will feature the convergence of microfluidics, commercial mobility and compute technologies for new applications in healthcare.

thumbnail Dr Ali Tinazli Headshot Sept 2016Dr. Ali Tinazli has a deep background in the science and business of biomedicine and healthcare. Ali has done extensive work in the field of molecular biology of aging and nanobiotechnology and has authored about 20 publications. He received his PhD in BioChemistry from J.W. Goethe University in Germany, and also studied business at UC, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and MIT’s Sloan School of Management. After receiving his Ph.D., Ali was in Corporate Development at Applied Biosystems (now: Thermo Fisher) where he conducted technology scouting and in-licensing. From 2008-2015, Dr. Tinazli, built the biomedical consumables business at Sony DADC (part of SONY Corporation). As a member of the management team at Sony DADC BioSciences, he has headed as VP & Head of Business Development the Americas business based out of Cambridge, MA.

In December 2015, Ali Tinazli joined HP’s CTOs office in Palo Alto (CA) and is leading the corporate-wide, global strategy for Healthcare and Life Sciences. In addition to his bioscience and industry domain experience, Ali brings strong entrepreneurial experience and hands-on knowledge of the biosciences start-up community. He currently sits on the Advisory Board of a bioinformatics/computer processor company, and serves as a Board Member at various start-up companies in the biomedical/digital health space.

Keynote Presentation: Blended Reality for Life

New imperatives of healthcare are focusing on prevention, personalization of diagnostics and treatment, and democratization, including access to everyone, anywhere, anytime at a low cost. This imperative is based on two pillars: ubiquitously distributed (decentralized) diagnostics tools for capturing the health status and processing of the data into personalized, readily accessible and actionable health information. The decentralized diagnostics tools will require low power, connected, commercial mobility devices driving affordable high-tech, low cost microfluidics cartridges—technically similar to the microfluidics cartridges for inkjet printers—to interrogate by biochemical means the health status. The clinically relevant data obtained will be processed with machine learning and AI tools on-site to provide immediate insight into the patient’s health condition. The technology convergence in medicine is enabled by the powerful combination of microelectronics, microfluidics, distributed network and data analytics.

Panel 1: Empowering the Patient Through Digital Engagement

As connected care comes into play as a part of the overall population health management strategy, it is equally important to consistently improve quality & outcomes while reducing costs & utilization.

This panel will discuss the practical applications of an integrated delivery system in a wide variety of clinical care settings to improve overall population health, with specific interest on best practices for patient engagement, care management and clinical research.

Discussion Points:

  • What is the best strategy for successful patient outreach?
  • What are the state-of-the-art technologies available to empower providers in engaging patients in their care?
  • Who is ultimately responsible for consumer-generated health data, and how can this be leveraged in population health and care management?

Panel 2: Protecting Patient Data by Eliminating PHI Breach

Personal health information can be more valuable than credit cards or Social Security numbers. It’s no surprise that healthcare organizations are susceptible to data breaches. Preventing them is difficult, but the damage is far worse. The issue of personal health information (PHI) and cyber breach liability is an increasingly large concern for digital health companies, especially for startups and innovators in the connected care space.

This panel will discuss industry best practices with specific interest on preventing cyber breaches, including an overview of business associate agreements (BAAs), current privacy regulations and monetization of big data.

Discussion Points:

  • How can you work with users to build trust?
  • How often should a thorough risk analysis be performed?
  • How can you best protect your company from breach liability?
