Staff Scientist (Chemical Validation Lead)

The Role:

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Staff Scientist, Raw Material (Chemical Validation Lead). This position is both a team contributor and a team leader that is responsible for improving the supply continuity of raw materials used in the manufacture of MicroSlides, MicroSlides Fluids and MicroTip products. Identify and apply early risk identification techniques, collaborate with suppliers to model potential capacity risks and identify and resolve other factors that may influence delivery constraints. Organizes and leads cross-functional projects that are identified to reduce future material disruptions. This will include working with Procurement to identify and verify secondary suppliers and/or material sources. Develop and monitor KPI's to track improvements with delivery versus the current vulnerability analysis to help improve supplier relationships.

Interface cross-functionally within Procurement, Materials Management and Operations when urgent supply issues do arise. Escalate the issue appropriately and create a plan to mitigate the potential for stock-out which may include conducting verification/validation activities. Manage daily and long term activities of the group, aligning work priority with Operations needs. Reviews project strategy, test plans and reports to ensure scientific rigor, quality, and documentation requirements are all met. Develops a competent, technical staff that can effectively carry out all required scientific functions. This position is located on-site in Rochester, NY.

The Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate alternate suppliers and/or sources of materials to prevent recurrent challenges.
  • Monitor and update the current material vulnerability assessment. Development and monitoring of KPIs.
  • Effectively communicate to management and cross-functional teams; summarizes and presents project status updates to senior leadership team as needed.
  • Respond to immediate supply challenges.
  • Team leadership.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in scientific field or Supply Chain Management.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in regulated environment.
  • Validation experience required, including authoring plans, reports and analyzing data using Minitab or equivalent statistical software.
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing new programs/processes
  • Demonstrated experience conducting root cause investigations using QIC6,Process Excellence or equivalent methodologies and tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in both project and team leadership
  • Experience with Ortho Change Control system.
  • Less than 10% travel required.
