Operations Specialist

Description:
Works closely with the BioInspired Institute’s Director and Director of Operations to assist in most of the Institute’s programs and initiatives. Serves as liaison to Institute members, SU administration, Trustees, and Advisory Board members and partners; makes strategic recommendations for planning, policies, and practices. Conducts special projects for Institute leadership as needed.

Administrative roles include the management and planning of operational budgets, including working with other University offices to manage internal and sponsored funding. Uses independent judgment to manage and coordinate daily office operations and workflow processes. Supervises staff, and works with leadership on resource planning, contracts, and logistics of the central research facility. Ensures compliance with HR and immigration requirements on search and hiring to Institute positions.

Programmatic activities include the planning and coordination of Institute-wide activities, overseeing marketing and communications, and managing website content, databases, and calendars. In partnership with Institute leadership, organizes Institute events. Collaborate with faculty program directors on NSF-funded summer Research Experience for Undergraduates Site or similar programs, and helps organize and coordinate the Institute’s professional development program for graduate students.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; bachelor’s preferred.
  • Five or more years of accounting and administrative experience required.
  • Three or more years of grant proposal and grant administration experience recommended.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and high level of discretion and confidentiality required.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, website content, basic financial accounting, and database management.
  • Apply knowledge of university policies, practices, and procedures, as well as federal guidelines and policies for sponsored research.
