Formulations Scientist Technician I

The Role:

As the company continues to grow, we are seeking a Formulation Scientist Technician I. This is a full-time position located at the Fluids Manufacturing Facility in Rochester, NY.  The individual will be responsible for the formulation of calibrators, controls, diluents, and miscellaneous solutions following established procedures. The individual I will work both independently and in a team.

This position is in Rochester, NY.

Schedule: A-shift (7:00am to 3:30 pm). Ability to work OT based on business needs and occasional coverage of B-shift (3:00 pm to 11:30pm) and/or C-shift (11:00 pm to 7:30 am) is required.

The Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of large batches (up to 3000L) of complex biological solutions following standard operating procedures and work orders.

  • Weighing of chemicals, volumetric addition of various biological components, etc.

  • Interpret laboratory data to make appropriate chemical adjustments to formulations following defined corrective action procedures.

  • Setup and operate mixers, pumps, filtration, and diafiltration systems as needed based on solution type and batch size.

  • Clean, sanitize and/or autoclave formulation vessels, parts, and equipment as required.

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed in accordance with current good manufacturing practices, established quality protocols and other standard operating procedures.

  • Maintain formulation equipment (pH meters, analytical balances, etc.) and perform necessary calibration, quality control and documentation per standard operating procedures.

  • Monitor inventory of formulation supplies (filters, tubing, etc.) and place replenishment orders when necessary.  

  • Perform weekly and quarterly cleaning of formulation areas following standard operating procedures.

  • Ability to occasionally lift 45lbs manually or 100lbs using powered lift equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in scientific or related field.

  • A basic understanding of laboratory skills and techniques (weighing, pipette use, volumetric measure, etc.)

  • Familiarity of safe chemical/biological handling.

  • Strong math skills.

  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Experience with SAP.

  • Familiarity with aseptic technique.

  • Internal Partners: Management, Production Engineers, Maintenance Operators, Quality Analysts/Scientists, and Quality Engineers
  • External Partners: Outside Vendors and Instrument Service Personnel
